John Barnes Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Session Preparation:

  • Drink plenty of water before your session.
  • Come with clean skin without any oils, lotions or perfumes applied before your session.
  • Bring or wear appropriate clothing for your session. Treatment is done directly on the skin. During your appointment, you will be asked to undress down to work out shorts for men or bra and underwear or two-piece swimsuit for women. Choose something you will be comfortable in and comfortable being seen in.

Treatment:

  • Each session begins with a conversation going over your medical history and current health concerns.
  • You will be given time to change into your chosen attire.
  • A brief visual assessment will be done to assess structural imbalances.
  • During the session, I will generally start with the area of chief concern, however, this is a nonlinear technique that follows the bodies indicators for where to go next.
  • The techniques used during your session may include gentle static holds for 5 minutes or longer, unwinding, where gravity is taken off of areas of the body and gentle traction is applied while the body gradually releases, or rebounding, which feels like gentle rocking of all or isolated areas of the body.
  • During your session, it is important to quiet your mind and bring your awareness into your body. As the session progresses and releases occur any feedback you can give me will enable me to better tailor your session.
  • When a release occurs it may feel small or significantly change the way your body feels. Emotions may be released as well as physical restrictions and these releases may continue to occur for a few days after your session.

Afterwards:

  • Drink plenty of water and give yourself plenty of time to rest after your session.
  • Many people feel very good after their session, but some people may experience discomfort, pain, or unusual symptoms for up to three days afterward. This is very normal and can be part of the healing process. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via call, text or email.
  • Please take note of how you are feeling after your session and let me know the next time you come in or just you can drop me a message at any time.
